Greater Western Sydney have received a suspended $2500 fine after coach Leon Cameron twice approached the emergency umpire during last Sunday's loss to Fremantle.
AFL football operations manager Mark Evans said the sanction was imposed after a report was submitted by the match-day umpires.
"The AFL's view is that the umpires should not be approached at any time by any club official during the course of the game but took into account the fact that Mr Cameron had proactively contacted the AFL Umpiring Department to apologise for his actions, before the AFL had sought to follow up the matter, as well as the fact this was his first offence under the rules," Evans said in a statement.
The fine was suspended and would be activated if there was a further breach by Cameron or the Giants.
Speaking after the match, Cameron said he was frustrated with a couple of decisions that went against his team in the 21-pont loss and wanted to clarify them with the umpires.
