GWS ruckman Shane Mumford (L) has tied himself to the AFL club until at least the end of 2018.

Influential GWS ruckman Shane Mumford has signed up for two more years and is in no hurry to return to the real world outside the AFL after that.

Mumford 29, will remain a Giant until at least the end of the 2018 campaign.

"It would be nice to keep playing a few more years after that," Mumford told AAP.

"But in the end it's about how my body is and what's going to be the best for the team, so you just don't know.

"I want to hang on for as long as I can. I don't want to go back in the real world I did before.

"They'll have to kick me out kicking and screaming," warned the former boilermaker.

The big man is renowned for his intensely physical approach and second efforts and is widely regarded as the single most important player at the emerging club.

The Giants faded badly when he missed the second half of last season, lending weight to the argument he's the club's most influential player.

"It's obviously nice to hear it every now and then, but sometimes it can be taken a little bit overboard probably," Mumford said.

Prior to joining GWS before the 2014 season, Mumford spent two seasons at Geelong and four at Sydney, where he was part of the 2012 premiership-winning team.

With GWS thriving and threatening to earn a maiden finals campaign, Mumford is hoping to win a premiership with a second Sydney club before he retires.

"That's obviously the goal but we've just got to worry about going week-to-week and going with that same intent that we did on the weekend (in the 75-point twin over Hawthorn)," Mumford said.
