Dynamic young wingman Lachie Whitfield said the prospect of missing out on success with the fast-improving Greater Western Sydney side was the major motivator in him signing for two more more AFL seasons.

21-year-old Whitfield, the No.1 pick in the 2012 draft, said while there was always the temptation to head home to Victoria, he wanted to stay.

"If I was to leave and see success up here it would really burn me I think," Whitfield said on Friday, the eve of the Giants' home game with Gold Coast.
