GWS Giants defender Caleb Marchbank will undergo a full shoulder reconstruction after again injuring his shoulder two weeks ago in the NEAFL.
Marchbank has spent much of the season on the sidelines, but another dislocation in the Round 16 NEAFL clash has seen him be booked in for surgery.
David Joyce, the Giants Head of Athletic Performancesays that it's been a difficult decision for the former number six pick.
“After extensive consultation over the last week between our medical team and specialists, a decision has been made for Caleb to have a shoulder reconstruction,” Joyce said.
“This is disappointing news for a young player like Caleb but with his long term welfare in mind, this is the best course of action to take.
“It’s been a difficult season for Caleb but we’re confident he’ll make a full recovery in a matter of months."
The Giants 2014 top ten class from the draft has all missed significant time through injury with Paul Ahern suffering an ACL rupture earlier in the season, while Jarrod Pickett has battled a foot injury.
